Torrent files for the public to download, and encouraged users to upload torrent files for a variety of copyrighted content without authorization, such as movies and television shows. was a commercial website that stored and hosted KAT was originally hosted at the domain name, but changed its domain name several times, including to kat.ph, kickass.to, kickass.so, and kat.cr. Millions of members were registered with KAT, many of whom resided in the United States. KAT also offered users a direct download feature that enabled users to download copyrighted material directly from computer servers associated with KAT rather than from other KAT users. KAT created a publicly accessible network that relied on BitTorrent technology, enabling KAT’ s users to copy and obtain copyrighted material directly from other KAT users for free.
Kickass Torrents, or “ KAT,”was a commercial website thatįacilitated and promoted the reproduction and distribution of copyrighted content over the Internet without the authorization of the copyright owners.
